What is CranioSacral Therapy?
This manual therapy is a gentle, non-invasive method of evaluating and enhancing the function of a physiological system called the craniosacral system. CST enhances the body’s natural healing processes and has been proven effective in treating a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.
The craniosacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and the spinal cord. It extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth- which make up the cranium- down to the sacrum, or tailbone.
The positive effect of CranioSacral Therapy relies to a large extent on the patient’s natural self-corrective physiological abilities. The therapist’s light, hands -on approach assists the hydraulic forces inherent within the craniosacral system to improve the body’s internal environment. Examination and correction are both accomplished by hands on testing for movements and restrictions. The goal is to achieve a more conducive state in the brain and spinal cord for natural healing to take place.
What is SomatoEmotional Release?
This hands-on technique is used to rid the mind and the body of residual effects of past injuries and negative experiences locked in body tissue. The goal of SER is to help the body clear itself of “energy cysts” or “archaic wounds” that have been caused when physical, emotional or spiritual traumas are too severe to integrate into conscious memory at the time of the incident and the nonconscious stores them away in the body tissue for future assimilation or release. Once these “cysts” or “wounds” are released and the compensatory activity no longer required, the body’s self-correcting abilities take over, allowing for more efficient use of body energy and neurological function.
During a SER session, the therapist, through dialoguing techniques and light touch, encourages the part of the mind that seeks to release the energy cyst. Often, the body assumes positions it was in when the accident or injury occurred and the patient will re-experience the emotions present at the time of the original incident. Once this suppressed experience break through the surface, the problems can be dealt with and resolved.
What is Visceral Manipulation?
VM is a manual therapy which uses light, specifically placed pressure to encourage normal mobility, tone and inherent tissue motion of the viscera (internal organs) and their connective tissues. These manipulations have the potential to affect the physiological functions of individual organs, the systems they function within and the structural integrity of the entire body.
The visceral system relies upon an inter-connected synchronicity between the motions of all the organs and the other structures of the body. When health is at its optimum, this harmonious relationship remains stable through the body’s endless varieties of motion.
Due to the delicate and often highly reactive nature of the visceral tissues, gentle, precisely directed force reaps the greatest results. As with other methods of manipulation that enter deeply into the body, such as CST, trained VM therapists work only to assist the forces already at work. Thus, they can be sure of benefiting the organism, rather than adding further injury or disorganization within the body.
What is Zero Balancing?
ZB is a hands-on bodywork system designed to align your energy body with your physical structure. Simple, yet powerful, it focuses on your whole person, even when addressing specific needs. Considered at the leading edge of body/mind therapies, ZB moves beyond Western scientific approaches to body structure by incorporating Eastern concepts of energy and healing. What this does is enable a therapist to work simultaneously with your structural and energy bodies to bring balance.
Essentially, these two bodies work in concert with one another and with the external world, yet function independently of each other. The structural body is what you can see and touch - bone, soft tissue and all the body organs. The energy body is the seen and unseen movements, including muscular movements, movement of tissue fluids, cellular and molecular vibrations, movement within the body fields and movement of the life force (soul) itself. Your energy body directly affects, and in large part is responsible for, your mood, emotions and vitality. Changes in body energy and its fields usually precede illness and have a causal relation to disease.
When structure and energy are balanced, dysfunctional habits, such as outmoded emotional patterns and imprints from past traumas, tend to release. In addition, you’re able to function with relative ease, efficiency and comfort, cope with things better, and enjoy greater robust health. This is why people undergoing ZB report feeling a sense of fluidity, integration and well being following a session.
ZB focuses primarily on the skeletal system in particular because it contains the deepest and strongest currents. The process of accessing the deepest energy currents through the skeleton is by a form of touch known as interface. Gentle and non-invasive, it’s pleasant for the client. This touch creates a point of stillness where the mind quiets, the energy fields reorganize and internal reorientation occurs. It helps integrate the body/mind/spirit to promote optimal functioning.
